Hornsea 3 Onshore Cable Route Wins £25m+ Project of the Year

William Morfoot Ltd is proud to have played a role in the delivery of the Hornsea 3 onshore cable route, which has been recognised as £25m+ Project of the Year at the VolkerWessels UK Platinum Awards 2025, announced earlier this week.

The prestigious award celebrates the successful delivery of the £120m+ high-voltage (HV) cable route project — a critical piece of infrastructure supporting what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm. Once operational, Hornsea 3 will generate an enormous 2.9GW of renewable energy, enough to power millions of homes.

The onshore cable route spans 52 kilometres across the Norfolk countryside, carrying electricity generated offshore to the National Grid substation in Norwich. The project represents a major step forward in the UK’s transition to cleaner energy, strengthening the country’s renewable power network while supporting national sustainability goals.

One of the most remarkable achievements of the project was its outstanding safety performance. Over the course of the works, the team delivered more than 1,100,000 hours on site with zero RIDDOR incidents and zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) — a testament to the professionalism, commitment and strong safety culture shared by everyone involved.

William Morfoot Ltd was proud to work alongside a number of highly skilled specialist contractors who contributed to the success of the project, including PLS Civil Engineering Ltd, FB Taylor, Martin Hiatt (M9 HDD Ltd) and Tom Blackwell (Contractors & Plant Hire) Limited.

This award recognises the collective effort of all partners involved in delivering such a complex and large-scale infrastructure project safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. Every member of the team should take great pride in what has been achieved.

William Morfoot Ltd provided surveying and design services for all land drainage requirements on the project, as well as specialist teams to deliver the pre- and post-construction drainage works from start to finish.

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the success of the Hornsea 3 onshore cable route.
