Trusted Expertise

Protecting land during and after installation

Effective land drainage prevents disruption, safeguards soil integrity, and supports long-term land performance.

Just as importantly, every stage of our work is underpinned by rigorous safety and compliance standards.

Cross-country cable and pipeline installations can significantly impact soil structure, leading to compaction, waterlogging, and drainage failure if not managed correctly. Without the right controls in place, these risks can create lasting challenges for landowners, developers, and contractors.

At William Morfoot, safety and compliance are built into our culture — not treated as an add-on. We hold the relevant accreditations, understand the regulatory landscape, and apply best practice on every project. By implementing targeted drainage solutions before, during, and after installation, we protect existing drainage systems, maintain ground stability, and restore land to its full potential. This ensures infrastructure delivery and land performance can progress together, safely and responsibly.

Safety & Compliance

Safety and Compliance at Our Core

At William Morfoot Ltd, health, safety, and compliance are fundamental to everything we do.

We recognise that civil engineering works are often carried out in complex, high-pressure environments, frequently alongside multiple contractors working in close proximity. Combined with the nature of the activities we deliver, this can present significant potential risks.

We fully align with industry expectations to minimise risk, demonstrate transparency, and maintain full compliance at every stage of a project. These are not just requirements to us—they are values we actively uphold.

We take a proactive approach to safety, continually seeking positive ways to improve how we operate and ensuring our work is carried out as safely as possible. We work closely with our clients to develop robust, effective systems of work that prioritise safety without compromising efficiency or quality.

Ongoing training and staff development sit at the heart of our business, ensuring our teams are competent, confident, and fully informed. Clear communication and regular engagement—both internally and with our clients—are integral to our way of working. In addition, we invest in the very best equipment and technology, providing our people with the tools they need to perform their roles safely and effectively.

Minimal Disruption

Specialists in cross-country drainage

At William Morfoot, we deliver specialist land drainage solutions for the civils and utilities sectors, with a strong focus on safe, compliant, and efficient project delivery. Our work is increasingly linked to the offshore windfarm sector, supporting the UK’s move towards net zero through effective land drainage along cable routes and associated infrastructure.

We also work extensively with utility providers on cross-country pipelines, delivering remedial drainage solutions that allow projects to be completed on time and to budget, while protecting land integrity throughout the construction process.

Working closely with contractors, developers, and riparian landowners, we assess, design, and implement drainage systems that minimise disruption and meet strict safety and compliance requirements. Once installation is complete, our focus is on full land restoration — ensuring land is handed back in a condition ready for farming operations to resume with confidence.

Client Testimonials

What Our Clients Say...

We have had the pleasure of working with William Morfoot for the past 18 months on the Hornsea 3 onshore cable route where they have done both design and delivery of the land drainage for 54km. The way the teams have performed has been impressive with a very positive attitude to safety and the environment with a can do attitude. They are definitely a solution based company that I would work with again and recommend!

Peter Chartier, Volker Fitzpatrick, Project Director for the Hornsea 3 Onshore Cabling Works

William Morfoot Ltd conducted their work in a professional, safe, and efficient manner. The team collaborated well with archaeologists, adapting working methods to accommodate pre-works investigations. A good sign of restoration works is the sense that it isn’t constructed and there is a sense of immediate naturalness. William Morfoot have achieved this with subtle design tweaks (dressing bunds) and creation of irregular finished profiles. The Cranes have already moved in!

Ellis Selway MCIEEM, National Trust Peatland Project Manager.

A big thank you to William Morfoot for successfully delivering their turnkey land drainage solution for VolkerFitzpatrick on the Hornsea 3 onshore cable route project. The 52km scheme crossed three district councils in Norfolk and around 100 land plots, with works carried out all year-round to align with the main programme for our Client, Ørsted. William Morfoot’s design team carefully considered the unique needs of each plot, while their installation team consistently delivered high-quality work - rain or shine. At VolkerFitzpatrick, we set high standards in Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality – standards that William Morfoot share. From day one, William Morfoot showed a strong commitment to these values, and we’ve been thoroughly impressed by their proactive approach and thirst for continuous improvement.

James Darwent MEng CEng MICE Senior Project Manager: C14991 – Hornsea 3 Onshore Cabling Works

William Morfoot played a key role in delivering Anglian Water’s first treatment wetland at Everton, Cambs. The project was completed on time, to budget, and with a clear commitment to safety and compliance throughout. Their professionalism and collaborative approach make them a contractor I would strongly recommend.

Adriano Staffieri, Project Delivery Manager: Anglian Water @one Alliance

The HSE team recently conducted a review of Siemens' overall site at Necton Substation, part of the Vanguard cable route. Siemens gave great feedback on the civils work area managed by Justin and his team. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to them all. Their continued cooperation, support, and commitment to maintaining high standards onsite are truly commendable. Please thank your team for their dedication and hard work.

Beau Brennan, Site Manager, Approved Power Services

William Morfoot Ltd impressed me from day one of the contract. The staff are professional, highly knowledgeable and very helpful. Having a good contractor on site, especially when the site is an important National Nature Reserve, instils confidence, and you know that the job will be completed to a high standard.

S. Henderson, Conservation Manager at Holkham National Nature Reserve
