OUR journey so far...

Honouring our HERITAGE

1960s

Laying the foundations

Driving post war farming efficiency through improved drainage, field amalgamation and mechanisation, transforming our farmland productivity across Norfolk.

1970s

Growing momentum

Government grants boosted both the demand and outputs on agricultural drainage work, enabling business growth and expanding services across farming communities within East Anglia.

1980s

Adapting with purpose

Grant removal dramatically reduced agricultural land drain demand, prompting diversification into sportsfield & recreation projects. Essential Farm Drainage works continued for larger farms during this period.

1990s

Broadening Horizons

The business continued to diversify, expanding into the utilities sector by delivering major underground cabling projects for electricity companies. Remedial drainage works associated with new gas pipeline installations also featured prominently during this period.

2000s

Extending our reach

The company steadily began to operate significantly beyond its historical operating area in Norfolk. Working in the in the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire Fens featured prominently and projects further afield were also undertaken including work in both Scotland and overseas in Spain.

2009

Emerging expertise

The first large-scale wetland creation project was delivered for an environmental client. This initial success quickly paved the way for additional wetland initiatives, leading to the delivery of complex water management projects supporting major habitat creation for migratory birds.

2010–2011

Precision in practice

A strong reputation had been established for delivering first-class survey plans that accurately presented topographical site information. As an early adopter of GPS technology, the business became one of the first UK companies to carry out surveys using GPS and to equip machinery with automated GPS systems. This proved to be a game-changing development, enabling far greater precision while significantly reducing delivery times.

2015

Work in renewables

Operations in the renewables sector began with the delivery of remedial drainage solutions for offshore wind farms, providing both design and installation services. These projects, often spanning many miles of countryside, demonstrated a growing capability to operate effectively within complex civil engineering environments alongside multiple contractors.

2020s

Environmental division

Work in the renewable energy sector has continued to expand, with multiple civil engineering projects delivered. A dedicated environmental division has also been established, delivering a diverse portfolio of projects for a wide range of environmental clients. Farming and agriculture remain central, with land drainage solutions provided to clients across the UK.

Understanding habitat creation from every angle

When it comes to habitat creation and restoration — whether river restoration, raising water levels or creating new wetlands — we understand the many factors that make a project successful. We bring direct experience of securing permissions and licences, meeting funding requirements, managing visitor safety and maintaining operational continuity. Our aim is to leave you with a site that delivers long-term ecological benefits and can be successfully managed and maintained.

Our habitat creation and restoration team is led by Chris Bielby, an experienced ecologist who has managed some of the country’s most important wetland sites. This depth of expertise means we see the world from our clients’ perspective — working in partnership to help manage risks and deliver practical results, not just follow a design.
